Lake Superior Sunrise

I just returned from my photography trip in Upper MI. and Lake Superior. I had some impressive weather conditions and especially setting out a wild storm through the night in my tent. The thunder was rolling non-stop with really high winds, rain and lightning. Around 1 AM my tent started leaking quite a bit because the rain was blowing right up under the rain cover. All in all it made for a long and wild night.
This picture was made along the Lake Superior shoreline on a more peaceful morning during a beautiful sunrise.
Canon 5DMK4, 16-35 F/4 L lens, ISO 400, 1/15 sec. at f/16. I didn't want the shutter speed to long so I raised the ISO to get where I wanted to be.
Thanks so much for all of your comments on my last post and any thoughts on this one. Cheers, Nick

I like this.  So many textures here, and I like how the colors are realistic; it makes me feel like I am standing right there.  Also like the hard rock FG with that fallen tree, and how the shore line fades into the distance.  The colors are lovely, it is beautifully balanced, and the whole thing has a really expansive feel to it. Nice!

Beautiful scene, Nick. Great sky and the fallen tree is a fine leading line out to it. Very enjoyable.

Nick, this image makes for an appealing classical composition for me, based on the diverse diagonals. I also like the clarity of the rocks as well of the water surface a lot. It certainly must have been a great experience!

A striking image Nick. The composition is very dynamic (love the accent provided by the fallen log) and you have a really awesome sky. The light and dark tones have been skillfully handled. I am also fond of the far shoreline. In my opinion its relative size and placement plays an important role to the success of this image.

This is beautiful, Nick!  I like the foreground textures both in the fallen tree and the rock.  It's interesting how the textures in the rock are somewhat echoed in the ripples on the lake.  Of course the light is also beautiful!

Nick, the dawn light is awesome.  The fast shutter, so that the details in the water are preserved works very well and that skinny aspen/poplar trunk pointing to the sun looks great.  Because that trunk is nice and bright, I wonder about some dodging in the upper right.  The lighting improves nicely there in the larger version, but still feels just a hair dark to me.

Genny, Harley, Peter, Anil, Brian and Mark, Thank you for your comments on this and I'm so glad you have liked it. It turned out to be a favorite for me out of the last trip.
Mark, I'll give that a try on my larger file and see how it looks.
Thanks all, Nick

Nick, I am struck by the lighting on the earth-toned rocks in the foreground and also on the fallen tree.  The large format really brings this out.  The sky is gorgeous and quite overwhelming.  The trees on the right side help balance the composition.  I wish I had been there with you.:)

Jay, It was a fantastic morning with some wonderful light. I just had to find the right spot to capture some of it. Cool if you could have been there too! The storm we had at the end of this day and through the night was impressive...not a time to be in a tent like I was. So glad you like this! Thanks, Nick
