Taken this morning in light fog before 8 AM.  There were two males and one female Grosbeak at my house this morning.  This is one of the males.  They were fairly cooperative.  I believe these are two birds
that had been to my house previously and I base that on the markings and photos I had taken previously last year.

Iso-1600, 200-500 mm at 500 mm, F7 .1, 640th, tripod, no flash (because I didn't wish to scare them however I think a flash would have helped with some of the texture in the dark areas), D 500, DxO photo lab, Adobe camera raw 10.3, Topaz adjust, TK sharpening action at 40%

Well posed and perched, good detail and well handled darks and lights. The soft light was a big help. I don't think you really needed flash.

Very nice shot, David.  We've been hearing them, but I haven't seen one yet this year.  I like the head turn and pose and the detail is excellent as is the smooth background.

Really nice detail in this David. I think the vertical perch works in this case because of the body position of the Grosbeak. Never seen one of these but I'd like to. Sweet background too.

A beautiful bird, David, and I just love the pose, and that sweet background.  To me the soft light is perfect.  If there is any detail missing from this gorgeous bird, I don't know where it would be!  The head turn, and that perch just makes the shot.
