Taken this morning in overcast conditions.  I've had Downy Woodpeckers around my house for several years.  This particular female is about twice the size of the other females.  This bird has been a regular visitor for about a year.

Iso-1600, 200-500 at 500 mm, F6 .3, 1250th, -0.3 EV, fill flash at zero, D 500, tripod, cropped from full frame horizontal, DxO photo lab, Adobe camera raw 10.2, TK sharpening action at 40%

Excellent image!
perfect pose, fine detail, nice BG and perch.
Feels just a bit tight in the frame to me,,,but personal choice.

Hi David.  If it's that much larger, it's probably a Hairy Woodpecker.  Size is about the only difference between the two species.  Superb detail and the old trellis makes a good perch.
