A nice sunny day brought me to the Nisqually National Wildlife Refuge this morning but it was so cold that there were very few birds out and about.  After a couple of hours of fruitless searching for an appropriate subject, I found this female Tree Swallow who was quite cooperative and allowed me to get within 12 feet.    This was taken at 9 AM and the light was already somewhat harsh.  The males, who are quite blue and bright were around but not as cooperative.

Iso-200, 200-500 at 500 mm, F6 .3, 800th, -0.7 EV, handheld, D 500, Adobe camera raw 10.2, Topaz adjust, TK luminosity masks and sharpening action at 40%, 70% of full frame.

Nice pose with good detail.  I like the perch and background and the overall composition.  Particularly nice in the large version.

Great perch and pose, David.  The swallow looks just a bit oversharpened to my eye.  Possibly due to contrasty light.

Great pose and cool perch David. I can't help but wonder how a vertical crop would look? Lot of negative space on the right...not that that's bad.  It also looks a touch over sharpened to me. Mostly noticeable in the white feathers on her back and top of her head. Love the background too!

Really nice detail, pose, stump, and BG - just about perfect.
