Overflow can get you into a lot of trouble.  That is a big lake out there, with this small creek running into it.  The big lake is frozen over, and at some point the running water can get on top of the lake ice, like it is doing here.  Then you can end up with alternating layers of ice and water.  I was standing in several inches of slush when I took this picture, and there was no way I was going to get farther out onto the lake ice.  The moving water can create holes and thin areas in the ice.  Considering that I had not seen another person for several hours before this, I really did not want to fall through the ice.
There is actually a large mountain on the other side of the lake, but the snow and low clouds obscured it.  The rough texture of the overflow slush was interesting, but I couldn't get a picture to show it the way I wanted.

Real nice wintery scene. I am liking the negative space the sky provides, with just a hint of detail in there. Great detail in the rocks and slushy ice in the fore. Very well done.

Genny, I like this winter scene very much. You really did a nice job with this composition and I think your processing looks wonderful. Excellent detail and nice textures. I also ike the way this is sharpened for web presentation. Excellent work!
I went through the ice once in conditions quite like this...don't want to do it again!

Genny, I appreciate your composition a lot, especially the transition from the tangible foreground details to the endless expanse in the distance. It gives me a great sense of the icy and inhospitable scene.

This is a beautifully done winter scene, Genny. When opening the large version the details become apparent in the slush and the snow covered rocks along with the tree lined shore. The negative space of the sky works really well and has me wondering what is out there being obscured by the low cloud cover. Moody and mysterious; great work.

I like the near white out conditions, Genny.  Those conditions help create a cool moody feeling that I like.  The leading line of snow covered rocks.  Glad you didn't break through.

This sends a chill down my California spine just looking at it Genny.  You are a brave woman to venture out into this without a lot of other people around.  The gray, bleak sky, the gray rocky bluff, and the gray ice and slush all set a really somber mood.

Genny, what a simple, yet strong image this !!!

Your use of of negative space here is wonderful, and adds a lot of mood to this shot. It's amazing how much balnce the negative space of the sky adds to this image. I like that you left this as color instead of converting to B&W, the cool tones in the slush work really well.

Very mysterious. I love the rocks and the nice curves in the ice. No suggestions here. Nicely done, Genny.

Nice one, Genny. The snow covered rocks provide strong visual interest and the lighting is moody and conveys cold. The composition is maybe slightly heavy on the left side and I think it would be more balanced by cropping a bit off the right.

The foreground rocks creating the leading lines/diagonals are what makes this image for me.  There's just enough detail in the sky to make it real interesting.  A very nice composition.

This is very nice, Genny.  The snow-covered stones work well for the composition as they lead to the frozen lake shore.  I can definitely feel the solitude of the landscape.
