My brother and I always make sure to stop at The Tarn a few times during our autumn trip to Acadia as it always seems to have interesting combinations of colors and reeds. This year we headed over early enough one morning; before the sun lit up the autumn colors on the flank of Dorr Mountain; to catch some mist rising from the water due to a night in the 30's following a warm day in the 60's. I will post a couple of those images shortly.

As always thanks for taking a look and leaving a comment or suggestion.

I love the soft color palette, the water and reeds are perfectly set in this lovely photo!   This sets the same mood as Monet with his waterlilies, although he had a blue green color theme.  Very nice and soothing

Ed,

I'm quite jealous of your proximity to this location. You've produced some real beauties and this ranks up there among my favorites.  I love the color palette of the reflection and the mixing in of lily pads just makes for a wonderful combination.    Just as nice is the layout of the reeds and that opening that really allows the eye to explore deep in  to the scene.

Hard pressed to offer any criticism or suggestions.  This is lovely, if not strikingly beautiful.

Ed, the glowing reflection in the water makes this special.  The shape of the glow looks like an oof mountain, giving the smaller view an intresting abstract quality.  The details of the lily pads in the glowing water and the reeds makes this a wonderful, intimate scene.

Ed, this is a delightful scene worthy of a quiet day trip in my canoe, except of course I would ruin the placid water and reflected grasses, which to me are the main stars of your comp. I also like the lead-out of the main branch up top. My only suggestion is to have just a bit more grassy distance above the water if possible. Thanks for sharing.

You have shown several images of this tarn and this one ranks right at or near the top. The composition is a good compromise between grass and water. Don't know what to add that I haven't in the past. I would clone out the dark object in lower center. Wonderful image.

This is beautiful. I have a very minor suggestion and that is to burn the slightly brighter areas along the top edge (center 2/3) but that is getting really, really picky. Excellent image!

It's amazing how this place yields up different comps every time we stop. And different color schemes also. This is first rate. I would definately clone out the large dark matter, and maybe also the one to it's right and the one in the inverted v of the water.devil

Thanks for your thoughts everyone; always appreciated. Here is a repost including Harley's suggestion of burning down the top middle edge along with Igor and Mike's suggestion of cloning out a couple of dark objects in the frame.

I like the contrasting texture between the sharp distinct blades of grass and the impressionistic quality of the reflection.  The bell-curve shape of the water adds intrest to the composition.  Did you shoot any abstracts of just the water?  It seems like there are a lot of possibilities for images there.

Ed,

Repost is fantastic!  Certainly "cleaner" after the cloning, but I didn't have much of an issue since there were a number of dark things to potentially clone out (when does one stop?) ;-)  Good job with the burn as well.

Thanks for taking the time to work and repost.

Love the repost. It's just perfect without the distracting plant matter.

The repost works very well, Ed. I like a lot this kind of abstracts and you did a great job in this sense.
