This picture was made on the AuTrain River this past week while I was in Upper MI. After hiking down below the falls this area is one of my favorite places. The sounds of the water here are just wonderful as is the peaceful and quiet feel. I used a 6 stop ND filter to get the long exposure and mood I wanted for this shot. Larger view for much better look.

Nick,

Terrific solemn and quiet mood here.  Great job with the longer exposure.  That gray streak heading downstream makes me think of a ghost or something fleeing the scene. ;-)

Can't think of anything to suggest for improvement and no little nits to find either.

Nicely composed and processed just right.

Very tranquil and soothing scene. Fine mood image, I like it a lot. No suggestions here.

Nice mood indeed, Nick. That six stop ND has imparted a lovely ephemeral feel to the water. This is a very soothing and thoroughly enjoyable image. Nicely done.

Really nice Nick.  Love the long exposure and the effect on the mist one flow.  I have been playing around with long exposures myself and I love the fact that often you don't realize the nuance of the image until post.   Beautiful work.

Nick, this is so mysterious and inviting.  I want to know what's around that corner so much, and that makes this such a successful image on an emotional level.  The beauty of the image almost takes second place to that intrigue.  ALMOST.  Wonderful composition and processing. The barren, leaning tree on the right adds so much IMHO.  This is a true winner on many levels.

Nick, you have created a fine, contemplative mood here with the soft lighting and the way that your long exposure lets the mist above the stream show as it turns the corner.

Lon, Harley, Ed, Gary, Bill and Mark, Thanks guys! So glad you guys liked this and I appreciate getting your thoughts on it. I know I liked it alot. I have a metal print with floater frame on the way. I will probably do some conventional prints and canvas here in my studio as well. Have a 3 day showing coming up so nice to have a few new images for it. Thanks, Nick

This is superb, Nick. Fine composition and processing has imparted a dreamy, dark, northern woods look which adds great mood. I've started to use a 6 stop ND filter more and more and love the effects you can achieve.

Thanks Dave! I agree the 6 stop ND is pretty cool to use. I have been using one the last couple of years for certain shots and really like the effects you can get with it. Even some mid-day shots can be pretty interesting. Glad you like the picture. Nick
