Well, the previous char image was received pretty well so I'll be curious to see how this one fares.  This from the same tree, just a different section and cropped from a full frame vertical.  It was supposed to be a 4-image stack, but I failed in my focus and so ultimately this is mostly a single image, although the little knobs at the bottom were blended in from a second frame for focus.  There are still some soft areas I'm bummed about.  Oh well.

I also wanted to tame the color a little bit, but still reveal as many colors that were present.  What I think is really cool is a pattern in the char in the lower left quadrant.  There's a Baobab tree. Do you see it?  The "Tree of Life" as they are known - which, BTW, is quite fitting and I just now realized... this Western Juniper... is alive despite its charred scars.

Your comments and critiques  are welcome!

thanks!

Lon

Wonderful textures and color Lon.  The dark vertical lines add some nice contrast.

The large version is just terrific. A color explosion the small version lacks.

Great colors and patterns. Reminds me of lizard skin.

Lon,
Another beautiful image of charred wood. Who would think there was that much color in it. I'm not that familiar with Baobabs and I'm not sure I see it, but the patterns are interesting. The small spots of "failed focus" don't bother me.

I think this is excellent. The detail is amazing. Is this one we used the gold reflector on? I don't remember. The color scheme is wonderful. I think most people see char as black, but the carbon platelets are highly reflective, as is evident here. The slight OOF areas don not bother me. You did a great job on this, Lon!

The colors (especially the blues) in this tight view are great, Lon.  Overall, there's a fine metallic glow that adds wonderfully to the abstract qualities.  This is a beauty.

Oh, I'm loving this one Lon. The mirror quality to that rich color, in a fascinating abstract, is superb.
