This is from one of the bigger monsoon storms from last year which caused local flooding near the Utah/Arizona border.  This years storms, thus far, have happened at night or have dissipated before evening.  Snow Canyon State Park is on the lower right, to give an idea of scale.   My favorite time of year for sure.

I really like the drama of the image. It works well in B&W and the lighting is a real added bonus. It reminds me of watching the summer thunders stroms roll across the prairie when we lived in North Dakota.

Simply Shocking......blush

Gary, this is one of the tremendous benefits we see from the monsoonal season in the southwestern states. You've captured one of the more significant events from one of these many storms. The B&W treatment strengthens the visual impact of the drama from both the horrendous cloud pack and then of course the electrifying lightning strike. Wonderful work.

btw: I had a similar event but not on the scale of this at all, however, it was late afternoon at Factory Butte years ago now. It was an amazing sight to see.....sad

Wonderfully executed, Gary.  I like the smoothness in the clouds in contrast with the jagged bolts of lightning and the rocky foreground.  This has a lot of drama, and the b/w conversion looks spot on to me.  Very nice work.

I'll echo Marylynne's thoughts.  The contrast between the soft clouds and the sharp lightning and foreground is striking.  Such great tones for b/w here too.

A fine catch on this T-storm, Gary.  The lightning is great and you've done very well at capturing the entire sense of a big T-storm, including the sharp rising cloud, some cloud movement blur and those fine rain bands.

This is an excellent b&w landscape. IMO it would be better without the lightning bolts.

Gary,

Phenomenal. End of story. ;-)  I love the processing here - especially the AA sky and clouds.  Great job working this one up.

The large view reveals the landscape as well, which is important, and so the canyon revealed is a nice bonus.

Oh, I'm sorry, I forgot to mention the lightning! Killer image!  Congrats!

This is grand!  Everything from the lightning to the rain shafts to the towering cumulonimbus clouds are extraordinary!  Great contrast and texture in the clouds.  I also like the scale over the landscape!
