Duncansby, Caithness, Scotland

At the edge of some of the UK's finest cliff scenery, Duncansby in Caithness offers a multitude of breathtaking cliff side views featuring sea stacks and rock arches. I arrived on a summer morning with a sea haar floating over a horizon-less sea with the ominous shape of a sea stack separated from the mainland by barely 200m looming out of a swirling mist. I framed it between some gorgeous clumps of sea thrift.

Beautiful and ethereal Ian. I see some wind blur in the flowers, but not a big deal. Wonderful image.

Ian, what a monster monolith. This is an amazing site. The "V" slice in the FG landscape seems as though it was a natural cut to get a better view of the sea stack. Life's long term erosion has done a perfect job with that formation too. The FG plants seem delicately perfect in the scene with such a harsh backdrop.

Like precariously stacked blocks, this mass looms into view ready to collapse, or so it seems. The V frame of land gives some reference and contrast. Stunning comp!

This one has a very ominous feeling to it Ian -- as though it's the bow of a ship breaking through the fog. Very cool!

This is a standout! The misty sea stack and the cheerful blooms seem on opposite ends of the mood spectrum but together they create a wonderful tension that is mesmerizing. Excellent image.
