Reine Harbour, Lofoten, Norway

A long lens was used to compress the perspective of this distant scene so that the red rorbrua the converted traditional fishing huts and the boats in the harbour were seen in context with the massive bulk of the jagged Lofoten peaks reflected in the tidal bay. An immense sense of scale is conveyed using this technique that is often overlooked in the wider view. Never has the Co-op looked so good.

Please view LARGE..it's definitely better.

Pentax 67II, 300mm ED lens, Polariser, 0.3ND hard Grad, f/16 at 1 Second, Fuji Velvia 50.

Ian, this is very special. I tend to love compressed scenes because they tell us a different story than what we normally see. Outstanding detail, color, and immense scale. Beautiful.

Lovely image of an amazing place Ian. Looks like you had more snow than last year.

The long lens was the ticket, here. The detail is excellent and I like the reflections. That triangular wall in the background is immense!

Well done.

This image is stunning. The contrast between the mountain and the town and then the sea is eye feast.

Oh, I really like this. Even though there is a lot in the image, it just all fits together. It has the feel and cohesiveness of a watercolor painting, but all the detail and real-ness of a photo! The colors complement each other so well. Absolutely beautifully done.

Amazing Image with so much interest and beauty Ian,
Very well presented and I love the water and related features.
If it were mine, I would clone out the 'COOP' on the side of the center building as it distracts from the purity of this spectacular composition.
Congratulations on the WP . . .

Wonderful shot, Ian.
I like the use of the long lens.

Congrats on the WP!

P.S: next month we'll be in Reine and Lofoten; we hope to have some good oppotunity... even without snow!

Whoa! I'm speechless over this one Ian! So right about using telephoto instead of wide-angle, a well made point seen in the look of the image. Great Pick! Beautiful work as always!
