as intergalactic travel, surely this belongs in ESS, the precursor of "Landscape"? while carrying a hasselblad on the end of a tripod, i stumbled into hyperdrive - along with a dragonfly - and this is what we saw.

thanks for looking - don't let your hat fly off on the ride - but let me know what you think when you catch your breath.

hasselblad 500c/m, 50mm lens, ilford delta 100 b&w film.

it also occurs to me that it could be a union jack kaleidoscope with a dragonfly caught in the tube ...

I like the warp drive feel that the geometric pattern of the leaves create Stuart. Nice tonal range.

I like this very much, Stuart. Great pattern and well captured. A crop up from the bottom might help to better emphasize the dragonfly (and embolden the symmetry).

Great comp, and the dof is just as good. What aperture do you have to use with the medium format to get that much in focus?
The dragonfly is just that extra element that makes this really good.

Terrific abstract with a touch of reality. This is very striking in b&w!

thanks to all - i see what you're saying jaymes about symmetry with a crop - could be interesting - although i kinda like the needle pointing to the bottom left corner.

morris, this is @ f/22 or f/32, i cannot remember, but i was particularly careful about getting the near and far limits of acceptable sharpness spot on. using the 50mm lens helps - it has a pretty good DOF (cf. the 150mm lens!)

thanks again.

Stuart,

Fabulous! Of course the viewpoint isn't anything new, but these always work! great, strong lines/diagonals and of course if you look at this too long, one can get a headache.... ;-) The dragonfly, just perfect.

This is awesome Stuart! The square format is perfect for this scene and the dragonfly is a nice touch. When I stare at this, I feel like I'm moving.

This is quite cool, Stuart--although i wish the fly's wings were a bit more visible, he looks more like a catepillar at this size at least.

This looks great! Very interesting to look at and it is a wonderful b/w image. It sure does have a kaleidoscope feel and even more so after staring at it for a bit. Very cool! Nice work seeing this Stuart and then capturing it so well.

stan - you nailed my reticence about this image - the visibility of the dragonfly's wings! lon, sorry to be giving you headaches ...

thanks again!

Sure is a spin out Stuart. I can't look too long or get giddy. Certainly sends me into hyperdrive... good thing I was strapped in! I like the position of the dragonfly, which adds a lot of interest and provides somewhere to rest my eyes

Very cool! Would have worked even without the dragonfly, but with it, it's even better! Looks great in B&W.
