I have been concentrating on Floragraphy lately as I am trying to gather enough material for an upcoming exhibition. Had a hitch early this year with logistic issues and have been trying to catch up in the last month. So, I will be posting mainly floragraphs this coming weeks as I finalise what to include for the exhibition. Your honest opinion is important as it help me decide what to include.

This is one of the few remainding must do flowers for me. The difficulty in choosing material for floragraphy is that one cannot predict the radioopacity of the subject before hand. So I am relying on what others have done and what I think would be the right subject. The second challenge is how to arrange the subject without knowing what it would look like.

I looked back through your recent material and this is the most artistically pleasing IMO.
It transmits a light, delicate feel..
I especially like how the distinctive form of the lotus, with its beautiful lines & curves, shines through..
Radiographically speaking of course

The curves, especially with the line detail in the petals, make this a very seductive image. The arrangement of the flower looks about perfect to me. Well done.

A very unique presentation of a lotus and an absolute must for your show. Beautiful even without its colorful petals.

Bravo!

Can you tell me what kind of x-ray machine you are using? What KV?

This is a stunner Gary. You handle the challenges that you mention very well. The petals have such a delicate look to them - and I think that is why I like this image so much. Good luck on getting prepared for your exhibition!

This certainly belongs in your upcoming exhibition.

I'd critique more in-depth but I'm not familiar with the process....

Unbelievably beautiful. Just when I thought I had seen flowers photographed in every possible way, here you are with Floragraphy. What an unusual look into a flower. A must-include for the exhibition.

Exquisite, Gary. Yes, the vegetables and leaf images are cool and interesting, but this has that elegant look. I don't know how many you are including in your exhibit, but I'd sure make room for this one. It's a beauty. Only suggestion: possible adding a little dark BG to the bottom.

Thanks everyone for your comments and encouragement. Yes, this one will have a spot at the exhibition.

@John - all my floragraphs are done on a GE digital mammography machine which has a kV setting between 22-35. This one is done at 26 kV and double processed using the dicom raw interface in CS5 and further processing in LR4. Both images manually blended in CS5. I have previously outlined my pp in critique of Rob Graham's wheat.

@Scott - This flower is rather large and I had to 'squeeze' it in to fit the size of the sensor. In the original raw file, the tips of the petals were touching the upper and lower edges. I added canvas all round and cloned a bit of stem in. I suppose it can be extended a little more.

Gary - My initial thought was to include the bottom petal also into the frame but after reading your previous comment I appreciate the practicality behind the process.

This is easily in the Top 5 of your best Floragraphs (grading them is tough, so give me some marks here) without a doubt in my mind. That should say enough about how pretty this one is. I specially like the texture in the petals and the lone swirl.

@Ram - Please tell your engineers at GE should install larger sensors on their mammo machines to cater for large flowers

The rhythms here are entrancing, Gary, with a fine overall composition and some lovely echo-like effects which add a sense of depth. The variations in light and shade, too, are a delight. This must be among my favourites of your floragraphs.

this one should definitely go into the show. The center is a pretty contrast to the petals. Looks like there is movement in these petals, some kind of floating.
