over the past six months, i have been leading a team to design a pretty large conservation project in northern kenya. one of the consequences of humans messing up the environment - in this case a mountain forest (which our project is now designed to protect) in an area with a signficant water deficit to start with - is to end up with real water problems. there simply is too little water to go around. the government and private sector truck water in from 50km away to this town, Marsabit, and sell it for up to $3 per 5 gallon container. Despite this, the town planners haven't a plan for the town's growth ... which, as a consequence, has been growing at about 4% per year. So here we are, messed up forest, over-abstraction of water, impoverished people.

thanks for looking. let me know your thoughts/reactions.

made at one of the two water kiosks in Marsabit town in northern Kenya. yes, for a town of 50,000 people, there are two water kiosks like this. hasselblad 500c/m, 80mm, delta 100 b&w film.

This is a powerful comp, which leads viewers to read the story. And what a story it is! Well done.

Troubling story...
Not sure about the photo--gets the job done i guess but i wonder if there was a way to emphasize the water more--mayeb a lower vantage point. Anyhow, thanks for sharing and keep up the good work, Stuart!
