the stars. in particular the south and north poles and their circumpolar stars - here's the celestial south pole. that's the southern cross in the top right corner! i thought this fitted the challenge rather well!!

thanks for looking; your guiding thoughts are welcome.

500c/m, 50mm, cable release, 5 hours or so of exposure, delta 100 b&w film.

It's a perfect fit for the challenge, and a very interesting shot. Almost like the surface of a record . . . at least, that's what I think those things used to look like. Pretty cool shot.

That's one heck of a star trail picture! As for the theme, this leaves no doubt about the direction to south, I would have guessed that was the north star if you hadn't told me otherwise, but I'm sure a navigator would know which hemisphere he is in.
