Green Darners egg laying

Here's another, somewhat experimental shot.  I was trying to shoot the dragonflies around a nice pond, when I noticed several pairs of Green Darner's flying in tandem and occasionally setting down to deposit some eggs.  They almost always landed in heavily vegetated areas, so there was no such thing as a clean shot, plus they were very wary and flew quickly even if I tried to approach very slowly.  In this case, I could get both the dfs and their reflection along with "some" vegetation.  (7D2, 100-400 f4.5-5.6 IS II @ 400 mm, 1/200s, f/8, iso 200, tripod)

Experimental success. The clarity and detail make this a treat to view. Large image a must.

Fantastic details Mark...fine behavior image. I manage to see a lot of df ...how ever getting a such a behavior image is difficult.

Pretty cool, Mark. As a frequent user of that lens, this is a good illustration of how critical DOF can be at 400 mm. You did a pretty good job getting them in uncluttered surroundings. And as an option you could crop out the grass at RHS and get the DF's out of the center, which I think it would work better.

Success with a difficult shot. Bill's suggestion I agree with; however, I think this is pretty good as is, especially as it is probably full frame.

This is really a great shot, Mark. The detail is awesome, and the reflections just adds to it.  Nicely done.
