The full title is: "Colored lights can hypnotize", but that won't fit.  A year ago, spurred on by some of Balan Vinod's fine spider web views, I spent a lot of time in the woods behind our Maryland house exploring the multitude of late summer/early fall webs.  I gradually discovered that for particular types of spiders under certain angles of light, the oof parts of the web showed some wonderful colors.  My background in optics leads me to believe that this is diffraction, where when the diameter of the spider threads is right, the light will show different colors at different angles between the camera, web, and sun.  This year I found one Orchard orbweaver that showed some great colors and had a shaded tree for a background.  I had the pleasure of revisiting that web for two weeks as the spider repeatedly repaired the web.  Here's one of the more colorful views.  (5D3, 180mm macro L, 1/80 s, f/7.1, iso 800, tripod)

Yes, these colors are wonderful and hypnotize, always said a good photograph is like a visual song. Nice that you were able to spend some time investigating and photographing it to get just the right timing and sunlight. The spider is a bonus. Great photo!

Mark, when I first saw the thumbnail I thought it was a manmade structure of some kind. But then realized the theme had stated a "natural" web. This is truly "psychedelic" in appearance with the rainbow of colors and weird looking data bit streams along the main strands. Gave me flashbacks to the 60's there for a moment. I think I had a paisley shirt that looked a bit like this back then. Very cool.......laugh

Excellent, Mark, very cool; have never seen this.  Reminded my of a carnival ferris wheel, hadn't checked the theme for the week.

That is just way cool, Mark.  I suspect you are correct about the diffraction.  You picked a good angle for a nice strong composition with great leading lines.  I guess my lesson from this is that it doesn't have to always be in focus to create good art.

Love this Mark...and a fine output..I know too well the difficulty involved in making an of the web with this kind of color display. Happy that my images have inspired you. Thanks a ton.

Wow, this is really cool and makes me want to try it. I do remember some of Balan's postings that were similar. I just noticed that the spider is actually in the center of this one, but it takes a back seat to the wonderful colors and lines here.
