I have also been known to wander around in the middle of the day, Lon. A guy can only nap so long . I think this works pretty well. The black, gold, and blue combo of colors is classic. The tracery of the oak creates a complicated pattern that keeps my eye moving around the frame. The only suggestion I have is to clone the one bright just shy of middle and slightly right of center. It seems to really draw the eye there as it is between a very dark forked branch. I like this.

You have a great eye for composing these kind of scenes. I struggle to find order in the complexity when I have attempted to shoot these scenes in the past. The composition here works well as the tree branches give structure to the scene. Without reading your description I never would have guessed that this was taken in mid-day light.

The backlit leaves provide a real nice rainbow of color. It looks rather different than that tree in my image. Amazing what the passage of time will do (and don't we all know it!). Nice image and nice of you to give Mr. Birdwell a chance to warm up in the sun.

It sure works for me. I do think it needs to be printed large in order to fully appreciate it, though. Even the large image is not big enough for me to see the kind of detail that I know is in those branches. I really like the blueish BG; it contrasts nicely with the colors in the leaves. I also like the nice balance to the comp.

Very impressive take on this tree, Lon. I like the way the tree's dark form comes through the foliage and anchors the image. Colors looks good, including the sublte blue in the bg to contrast with the gold leaves.

Lon: what an aptly chosen caption, as there is a stateliness to the tree. Your processing has made the photo look like a finely detailed pastel and has beautifully softened the textures and the light. Richard

A very fine image for being taken in harsh lighting conditions. The tight composition works well and the back lit leaves are beautiful. Only suggestion would be to either crop out or burn down the bight leaves in the upper left corner.

It's a fine look at the shape of this tree and it's golden leaves, Lon. The blueness of the background accentuates the golden leaves well.

Wonderful work, Lon. It seems as though there is nothing more to say on this subject. Yet the lower right quadrant is new and beautiful and different. The greens and leafless branches there are a hit with me. I might crop just a tad off the top so that the frame cuts into the branches rather than having them reach the frame.

The large version is a must-see in order to fully appreciate the color and detail. My only nit is the bright patch of rock just right of center near the middle--it could be burned down some. You are certainly the 'oak master'! This works very nicely, Lon.

Hi Lon,
This is just a gorgeous portrait capture of this beautiful Oak tree. I love trees and I love how you show off the structure and character of this Oak. The dark trunks create the structure needed to make this scene work, and the yellow foliage is just beautiful and of course a great compliment.
Mother nature sure does know how to create beautiful elements in this world, and you saw and captured it wonderfully.

Love the somber effect the dark gold leaves and black branches give this image. Excellent composition that fills the frame nicely. No nits at all, Lon.

I like the composition and the very paint-like feeling, a bit impressionistic. Works just as it is for me.

I'm enjoying the spreading arrangement of branches and the warm coloured leaves. I was surprised to read that this was shot in midday harsh lighting.
