Wow. I don't see a lot of nice photos form the Himalayas, most always a bland blue sky and not many golden hour photos.
This is really nice....

This truly is an impressive hunk of rock. Usually peaks like this need some additional frame or fg to work best but this one stands on its own nicely. I think that's partly due to the sky and even more to those very dark ridges with sunlight on the bottom. A square framed crop of the entire left side with the ride border being the end of the dark ridge, would IMO be a stronger composition.

Breathtaking Dave. Even with the large version, there's no way for the enormity of the scene to translate well IMHO. While it would have to be seen in person for that effect, this is the second best thing. Absolutely beautiful. I might increase the contrast a bit as the shadow details appear to be a bit on the open side.

I DO ENVY YOU. This is high on my list but for now staring at this will do. Only way to improve is add an element to give a scale. But boy what light.

I think this is wonderful as it is. The light is gorgeous, and the detail throughout is excellent.
Elevation above sea level is 23,684 feet--Great Big!
A fine image, Dave!

Dave,
All I can say is that this is EPIC. Ok, I'll say more... but this is almost beyond words. For starters, this has a painterly look, yet the immenseness and power of this that only a photograph can portray, is displayed in spades here. that glow of fog/mist/light central to the peak is key to giving this it's ethereal appearance. Ah, I digress... EPIC.
No suggestions what so ever. I'm thinking you've been sandbagging and teasing with the Eastern Sierra stuff.

Very nice Dave! I well understand due to the terrain, lack of easy access and altitude that there are not a lot of early morning or late evening optimal shots. At first look, this has an almost impressionistic painterly aspect to it. In fact my daughter, a climber-painter does works in much this style. As a climber I right away start looking for possible route lines.
Cheers! Tom

Wow. Well done. That is gorgeous.Yes, it's hard to get a good sense of scale from an image, but this is just impressive. I really like the wide range of light and dark, and the sort of misty, hazy places in there. Bravo!

Really outstanding, Dave. Almost a Thomas Moran or other early painter. Love it. The light, the detail, the grandeur all come to head in the large view. I'm in awe.

Dave, we've all head that in photography, it's all about the light, and this is the ultimate example. Just so happens that there's an awesome mountain in the image as well! Superb imaging.

A most unusual Himalayan image, Dave. I've rarely seen one with this kind of golden hour lighting. I like the tiny spots of orange on the left side of the mountain.
I did the circuit way back in 1983; a truly unforgettable experience but I think I took just a couple of rolls of film in the thirty days of trekking. We were on a serious budget ;-) I can't imagine how the place has changed/progressed, mostly I assume for the better as far as the inhabitants are concerned. Where was this taken from out of curiosity?

Beautiful profile of this peak. Looks volcanic. The angled lighting really brings out the textures on the lower portions of the mountain. A little more of the lower portion of the peak might help with scale but I suspect you had reasons. I remember Galen Rowell used to have some silhouetted trees at the base of some of his high altitude images. A beauty.

All,
Thanks much for the comments and suggestions.
Dave,
This image was taken at sunrise at Poon Hill in Ghorepani. My wife and I have been trekking in Nepal several times since 1993. The scenery is still spectacular but culturally it is changing. Maybe not as fast as some other regions but changing nonetheless.

Flat out spectacular, Dave. Have never seen an image of these mountains with such incredible light. This is quite simply jaw dropping gorgeous. I wouldn't change a thing. I would however, make a very, very large print.

Large indeed! The detail when seeing the enlarged version communicates the immense scale as the bluffs and outcrops have such umphhh.
Searingly wonderful reds, oranges, and colors.
