Drove past this cottonwood on the Seward Highway along Turnagain Arm many times over several years in all seasons when I lived in Alaska. Finally, one spring evening I went out to this spot with the view camera and stayed out there making images until it was dark. Thought this one turned out pretty nice and thought I would get your comments and suggestions on it. Couldn't get much shadow detail.

For those interested, the film used was a 100iso transparency film that Polaroid had put together, that was supposed to fit their 4x5 back. About half the time the film packet tore when you pulled it out of the back, at least that was my experience. I think Fuji and Kodak came out with their quickloads about the same time, which worked very well, and of course none of these are available any more.
4x5, 120mm, no filters, Polaroid transparency. M1 flatbed scan, Tony Kuyper's masks and such.

You are welcome to look at the larger version.

Thanks for your comments on my b/w attempt and thanks in advance for your suggestions, comments, critiques on this image.

Very darn nice for a film that was a bit of a challenge from the sounds of your comment, Vance. The composition was nailed and thankfully it looks like the film did an excellent job too.......

By the way, Project 55 has a Kickstarter going and actually has a Polaroid type film for 4x5's their trying to resurrect. Along with Ferrania Film in Italy there is some new life taking place on these fronts.

Very nice! Even silhouetted as it is, the blacks don't seem too heavy at all. It's been a long time since I saw something like this. Thanks for sharing it since most of us art not catching this sort of image anymore.

Beautiful and tough to make look good with such a direct sun.
Excellent exposure not blowing this out.
It has a nice mood to it as mentioned.....
