Erik Stensland is based in Estes Park, Colorado at the edge of Rocky Mountain National Park. He has one of the largest collection of images from this amazing location and has his own gallery in the center of Estes Park. He also had a growing collection of images from the United Kingdom.
Style
Most of Erik's photographs are characterized by vibrant contrasting colors that convey a sense of energy and life. The world is a kaleidoscope of light and color and his photography aims to bring this out. A photo can be taken at the same location on different days and the colors can vary dramatically. These strong colors often evoke a smile, a sense of joy or a feeling of wonder.
Focus
Erik's primary focus is Rocky Mountain National Park; one of the most beautiful locations in the United States with a diverse landscape of rugged peaks, open meadows, waterfalls and expansive tundra. Within its compact 415 square miles Rocky Mountain National Park contains nearly 150 mountain lakes, 450 miles of rushing streams and 115 peaks over 10,000' high. The diversity of the Park is breathtaking and explains why nearly 3 million people visit RMNP each year, making it the fifth most popular national park in the nation. Erik attempts to capture the splendor of RMNP and provide you with photos that rekindle that sense of awe you felt when you were there.
Equipment
These days Erik is primarily shooting with his Canon 5D which allows him a great deal of flexibility and yet a very high quality image. He also uses a 4x5 wooden field camera but that hasn't had as much use since the arrival of the 5D.
