Mystical Forest

Mystical forest and Murphy's Law. For the last 2 or 3 trips into the mountains things really haven't gone as well as I would have liked. Heavy rains, impenetrable fog and on the last trip, a couple of trees blown down during a heavy windstorm preventing me from getting out. Managed to get a couple though. All in all still consider myself lucky to be able to do what I do.

I always look forward to your posts, John, for the diverse views you bring us! This is no exception; the snow and misty forest make for a real interesting subject. I find myself quite drawn to that one green fern, id be tempted to go back just for a shot of it!

I like this with the trees just fading into the fog. To me the bit of fall color just makes this photo :toast:

The mood of this is great. I'm undecided about the large tree on the left side. I feel that it is too heavy and throws off the comp.

I really like the composition regarding trees and the fog. The dead leaves add a nice focal point and color. My nit is the slightly busy foreground - it breaks a bit the mood and atmosphere set by the background.

Outstanding scene & excellent technical capture too, John. The contrast between all elements in the scene are very good, even down to the moss on the side of the trees. The fog provides just the right amount of depth to the site to keep interest toward looking further into the scene too. Take care..... :wavey:

I'd consider myself very lucky if I got this image. This is very sweet. If I have a nit, it's that I want to see more.

This is very nice. The mood is great. I think more seperation with the trees near the middle would improve this; it would add to the depth.

I like this a lot. The fog adds a lot of mood to it, while still allowing us to see into the depths of this scene. Very nice.

Very Nice, John. Sharp!! The fog always does a nice job of making the fore ground stand out.

The mist sets a wonderful mood here, and I like the hints of color in the dry leaves and ferns. Excellent image.

Nicely done, John. I know that the thing I look for first in winter scenes is a sign of color (I don't always find it, and it doesn't mean I won't shoot a scene without it, but it's what I invariably look for first). The leaves and the fern in the foggy, monochromatic scene, are just great.

This is good. The fog provides the layering and the leaves the colorful highlights. This works well for me.

John, this is absolutely beautiful. I am always looking for foggy forest shots, and I have been shooting small beech trees in the snow for two years without getting the right composition. By combining the foggy scene with the color of the beech leaves and that fern, you have composed the perfect combination of elements. Yes, you ARE lucky to be able to do this, and it's rewarding for those of us who get to see the results, too.

This is absolutely beautiful, John! I love the softness in the background, giving the image a mystical appearance indeed, and the beech and fern are a nice addition.

I like the contrast between the dark trunks and the lighter beech (?) foliage. THe fog in the background adds nice depth.

The clarity of the foreground and the foggy background are awsome together! Excellent work on the comp as well.

I would feel great after capturing a scene like this.

Very nice with the fog and the contrasting color of the leaves! I suggest cropping in from the left to maybe the first 3rd of the large tree.

This is so good. I'm new to this website and am still exploring. This is absolutely gorgeous. It's the best image I've seen here yet. I could look at this every day of my life and never get tired of it. I'm going to look at your other posts now.
