Well the mother-in-law went home and now I can get back to work here. Missed seeing all the great stuff here!

Goosenecks State PArk at Sunrise on a November morning. The San Juan River covers 5 miles total while moving West only 1 mile as it bends back and forth through the sandstone of Southern Utah

I like the foreground, especially the color, but I also wish I could see the curving river behind it. The sky is splendid and the even lighting in the canyons works perfectly for showing off the details in there.

Incredible light, sky, and landscape.I will echo Kent's comments about wanting to see the curving river. I don't think I would notice it so much if it weren't for those clouds that match the lines of the river so much and draw my eyes down there. But at the same time, I'm guessing walking up to the edge to capture those curves wasn't worth the risk ;)

Wow, Mike! I could tell from the thumbnail, that this was going to be something special. The sky, colors and detail of this image are all very nice. While I like this composition, I can't help but want to see all of the river. Very nice.

Thanks Guys, There was a bit of frost that morning and I took a bit of a tumble before this shot and with my wife along who was adamant about me not going further I decided to stop here. I can't complain because she put up with me dragging her all over Utah and getting up at Dawn several days in a row.

Love the colors in this one. The sky is absolutely fantastic with those beautiful clouds. Well composed, but like the others, wouldn't mind seeing a bit more of the river.

Martin beat me to it!
This is the finest image I've ever seen from the Goosenecks, and I've seen a lot of 'em.
I don't miss the one small section of river that's behind the foreground, but I do wonder whether you were able to shoot a more 'traditional' version while you were here.

Regardless, this is a sterling example of what can be done after the sun sets. Very well done, Mike!

Wow ... I've seen so many of these horseshoe bend shots, but yours is certainly the very best I've seen ... some fantastic level of detail here, the colors are stunning ... I would rate this amongst your best shots :toast:

I think the comp is perfect, the light is sweet, and the dof/clarity is incredible. Just an awesome shot. Not really a critique, but my first reaction was how warm/red the whole image is, even the river has a bit of red in it. Im curious what some WB varieties would look like--though i trust youve picked the best

FABULOUS Light!!! WOW. Simply fantastic. I would also have liked to see the bend in the river below the foreground, but frankly the light on the canyon and the sky are so powerful that it really doesn't matter that much!

Awsome detail and incredible light! I don't mind not seeing the entire river, it adds depth and foreground interest having the bank in sight. Very well done!

Mike you missed the perfect opportunity... with your wife there, she could have anchored the rope allowing you to dangle into the perfect position. Seriously, if it means you get to live another day and bring back more amazing shots like this, no one's going to complain. The detail and color of this image is just stunning. Fantastic work!

I think I once stood at this lookout but the light was no way like you captured here. The light really makes this a great photograph. I am a bit unsure about the fg -maybe a bit too much.

Simply beautiful Mike, amazing color and detail all brought on by that sweet light. Read about your little tumble, my wife has picked me up off my pride many a time, she has a way of knowing what my limitations are, and I wouldn't have it any other way. Great shot and beautifully done.

As everyone said, the light is fantastic. I don't like the FG at all and want to see only the bends - but looks like you did not have an option. Great image - I will remember this for a long time for sure

Wow - I second all the positive comments already posted. The foreground doesn't hold much interest but the main subject more than makes up for it.

One of the best Goosnecks shots I have seen, Mike. The sky is to die for and really fits in well with the composition you chose below. Those clouds seem to mimic the curves of the river. How did you manage that :)

Great effect of radial lines leading outwards from the centre of the frame and including the sky. Would love to see a large version with all the detail. Light is exceptional.

Magnificent image! Unreal as in surreal feeling -- deserves to be printed big! Now as to the fg -- I think you need some sky hooks for your gear so you can hover over the canyon and get ALL the river. Or go back w/o the wife....but she probably had your best interest at heart -- right? We don't want to lose you to your art!!
