Taken this past summer. Nikn F3, 18-35mm lens. 2 stop neutral density soft. Me and a friend were on Pete's lake when the sun rose from the east. I thought this dock was very cool with the sun and rising mist.

Normally everyone would say that one should not have the dock centered, but sometimes rules just need to be broken and I for one think this works terifically. The mist really makes this very special. Excellent!

I think this is fabulous, the dock leads me right into the frame, very dynamic. If this were mine I would be tempted to lighten the center part of the dock just a bit to help pull the viewer in. I love the way this makes me feel like I can step right on to it and become part of the scene.

I agree with others comments. The eye movement front to back, then all over the frame. great! :toast:

I agree that the centered composition works very well here. Excellent shot. Very beautiful scene.

I think linear structures like this are actually an exception to the rule of not placing the main subject centrally - it's the only way to convey the perspective, but also gives the photograph a really pleasing balance. I love this shot, the colours are soft yet interesting in themselves, and I love the detail in the pier as well.... then there is that mist.... oh yes
