I found a freshly hatched snapping turtle and used the 300 f4 with 1.4xTc as a reasonable macro lens. This turtle was around  inches across and with a slight crop, was able to get a frame-filling comp. D500 420mm (300 mm f4 + 1.4TC) (1/25 sec at f16, Iso 800). slight crop for comp....................................Jim

This is a great close up view of this little snapper, Jim.  The sharpness of the face and eye lets them pop nicely.  I'm also enjoying the bits of dirt on the turtle and the rocks in front.  Don't know that you'd want a frame filling comp. of an adult...

This makes even a tiny snapper look fierce.  Godd shot Jim.

Still looks like he could take a nice chunk out of your toes Jim. I Love the head on, eye to eye, low POV on this one.

Jim ..the larger version tells it all. Fine detail, and fine eye level view.

Pretty close view of this little guy, Jim. A few years ago I found an adult alongside the road in Jean Lafitte, so I got it to grab a stick then dragged it out of harm's way. They'll flat clamp down on anything you put in front of them. Thanks for sharing.
