Bird on a Stick?

Only a short drive from home is a popular hangout for Brown Pelicans, and a piling makes for an ideal flat perch for their webbed feet. Taken this afternoon in cloudy conditions, there were a dozen or more vying for the best spots.

Excellent detail, Bill, and I like the typical pelican pose.  There were bunches of these hanging out at one of the piers when I was in Texas, but I never got around to spending time with them-which I now regret. Nice background bokeh.

Really nice job with the color and detail on this Brown Pelican.  The dark background makes the bird pop.  Well composed.

Excellent portrait of an impressive bird. Waiting for them to return to Washington coast (especially Chinook boat basin and Long Beach at low tide.

Such a captivating picture, Bill. Normally I try to avoid inclusion of HOM when taking my own avian shots, but in this instance the flat topped stanchion works to perfection. Its color and striated texture make an excellent compliment to the bird’s plumage. David
