I have been posting some sunset scenes in the Man & Nature Gallery that include a lakeside village. When the color in those clouds faded, I packed up my camera and tripod. Before heading down the hill, I turned around for one last look and saw this. I ripped the camera from my pack, turned it on and cranked up the ISO as I headed to a vantage point for some hand-held shots. To get it all in, I had to make 4 horizontal exposure (2x2) for stitching.
The colors look strange, but they are pretty much what is in the Raw file. (in ACR: highlights down 40; shadows up 40; and saturation +10. After stitching, I added +10 saturation again, plus some contrast adjustments to make up for the darkness of the view.) That color did not last long. That night a local TV weatherman got several reports of oddly-colored clouds. His explanation was that the colors at least partly were a result of the autumn leaves acting as both filters and colored reflectors. In his words, "The Sun shined through and reflected off the autumn leaves."
This viewpoint does not include the village that is in the other views in the Man & Nature Gallery, so I cloned out a few barely-visible buildings so I could post it here in Landscape.

5 commentsWhat a Glorious sky! I gotta say, I don't find anything odd or strange about the sky/clouds. It's pretty darn close to believable to me! Sure, saturation and colors get subjective real quick, but I wouldn't say these colors were over the top or odd, at all.
I think the illuminated fall color at the bottom of the frame - include the little bit of leaves in the LRC - create a strong base for this glorious landscape image.
The only small nit is that the sky up top is either over sharpened or a bit noisy. Can't say I buy that, but don't want to spoil the fun.....
Love the moment you've captured.
