Sony A700
Minolta 200mm macro
ISO 800, 1/1000 @ f4
Anyone who takes even a passing glance at my gallery knows that a clear majority of my posts do come from my yard and our garden. Being married to a master gardener has its advantages! This is one of my all time favorite shots, taken about 10 feet out my front door. I noticed some frantic movement near the pentas and was delighted to see this giant swallowtail pair cavorting around. I had just bought my A700 and was eager to test out its AF capabilities and frame rate and it did not disappoint. All comments welcome.>=))>

An outstanding catch, Bill.  Yes, your garden is a familiar sight having provided many great images over the years and nothing beats taking 10 - 20 steps to get a photo!  It's easy to see why this is a favorite image, with it's outstanding action and terrific colors.

Wow, two for the price of one!!!  And you didn't have to leave home, either!  Beautiful image, Bill.  I can see why this is a favorite.

Great capture Bill.
The detail from the tip of the antennae to the wing tips and flower is spot on. I love the color and lighting.
Thank you for sharing.

Outstanding capture, Bill. Getting two beautiful STs in one shot, with one in flight, is remarkable. The one in flight is itself remarkable with great in flight position and a nice bg with the oof flowers. I'd have this hanging on my wall for sure.

Well we have several things in common.  My spouse is also a master gardener and perhaps 95% of my avian images come from my yard also.  I do have occasional swallowtail's hanging out but I'm more of an avian photographer then a bug kinda guy.  This however is a very nicely composed image with good color, interaction, and a fine background to set off the whole scene.

I can see why this would be a favorite, Bill.  Gorgeous focus on the the two butterflies and foreground flowers with a pleasantly blurred bg.  Very well done.
