Backyard House Wren

I took some old branches and set up a place in the yard for birds to roost. This little guy and his bride have made a home in a decorative bird house that my wife bought at a craft show. I find it amazing that a bird this small that weighs less than two quarters can have such a powerful voice. Both he and his mate fly back and forth from the branches to their nest and also run around on our deck.
Please let me know what I can do to improve on the photo. I have a lot to learn and comments are welcome.

Thank you for taking a look.

I think it's a fine shot, Brian. I like the light on the subject and the fine singing pose. The bird has excellent detail, and the bg is pretty nice as well. My only suggestion would be to have more space in front of the bird, and less behind. The bird is sort of leaning or looking out of the frame and, in general, you want the bird to have more room in front of him than behind so avoid that look. The avian photogs on this site can probably give you more advice on this shot. crying

Yes, the voice of a house wrens is pretty amazing, Brian.  It often sounds to me like two birds having an argument, when it's just the male singing like crazy.  You've got a fine pose here, with the mouth open singing, and the eye highlight is a fine touch.  Scott's covered being too centered (which is usually not a good idea, but there are times when it's the right thing to do).  To me this image seems dark, have you looked at the histogram?  I suspect that you could have shot this nearly at full stop more exposure.

Hi Brian.   It looks like you're still having trouble getting a larger image posted.  I love the Wren's pose here and the nicely slanted perch.  the bg is also cool.  I do think you could increase the exposure of the entire image a bit as it looks pretty dark on my monitor.
