Gallery: Weekly ChallengePosted June 11, 2017215 views10 comments
This is one from last summer.  This juvenile Cooper's Hawk hung around our back yard quite a bit for a couple of days before moving on.  I posted this in the Avian Gallery, but I've tweaked the processing just a touch since then.

7Dii, Sigma 150-600 C @ 468 mm, hand held, f/8, 1/200, iso 800, aperture priority, pattern metering, -1/3 EV.  Processed in LR5, PS6 and LR CC (recent touch ups).  Cropped from a horizontal original to an 8.1 MP vertical.  Taken August 6th, 2016 in our back yard.

Thanks for looking.

Love this! I assume there is a mouse or something in the stump?
Beautiful bird, great pose, and excellent flowers , BG, and old wood. .

Excellent capture of a very handsome hawk, Dennis. I like the "curious" pose, the nice bg, and the leaves and branches coming up from the stump (or behind the stump). They look almost like flowers on the dining table. Overall, a beautiful image.

This is an amazing photograph, the soft calming colors of the background and the leaf stem adds to the mood of the peaceful look on the otherwise "prey" bird, of course it intrigues the viewer to ask ... what is he looking at? Next meal? The curvature of his neck and the way the feathers fall into place shows the beauty of the color patterns and shapes so wonderfully. I have often been told a great photo is one you can look at over and over and over again and not get bored and see something pleasing each time you look at it. This photo achieves that for me! Excellent color, subject, sharpness, framing... perfect picture.

On another note I cannot see the weekly challenge for this week listed. Can you tell me what this weeks theme is?

What a shot, Dennis!  I, like Norma, am curious as to what he is so intently looking at, and wonder if it is his next meal.  To answe Norma's question, I found the Weekly Challenge on the "All Topics" forum, and it is "My Yard".

A fine catch, Dennis.  The hawk's expression has me chuckling.  This is terrific, with the pose and the surroundings (especially the old post) adding some fine extra interest.

Dennis: I'm not a bird guy but this is just excellent. Love the subject, perch, pose and BG. Superbly crafted image.>=))>

I know I've seen this image before somewhere.  But I like it!  The colors just work so well together.  Nicely composed.
