American Goldfinch

This is a different kind of perch for me.  I believe this is probably a female.  Mid morning light, patchy clouds with sun breaks.  Yes the image is a little more centered than I would like because of the perch.   I don't know that adding space would be helpful.

Iso 400, 600 mm, F9, 500th, tripod, 90% full frame, fill flash at -2 2/3, D 500, Topaz and TK actions

I like this the way it is.  The perch frames the bird well, nice head turn, and the clean, complimentary background is good.  I suppose you could crop a bit off the right, but the finch is looking into open space, so I think this works as is.  I also like the tufts of lichen.  Overall, quite attractive.

I think you did well with the comp, David. Sometimes centered just works. A great perch and very nice detail in the Goldfinch. Surprised to see this female so mottled this time of the year, they may progress differently on the west coast.

With the vertical branch on the right, the composition works just fine for me, David.  Excellent detail and color.

David, I like everything about your Goldfinch image especially the sidelighting that brings out the texture in the delicate lichen and makes it a very attractive perch.

David, you have been giving us some really nice shots of great poses and great perches with all of the mosses. The BG is choice. The catch light and turn of the head on the finch is great. The overall compositional balance is right on. Hitting on all cylinders for me.

David, I like the composition as is. Even though the bird is almost dead center, the branch does enough to de-center the composition. Great background too.
