Roseate Spoonbill

Here's another image from my recent trip to Florida. (I live in New Mexico).  I made this photo of a Roseate Spoonbill at the  Audubon Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary northeast of Naples. In addition to spoonbills, I was able to see a variety of egrets, herons and anhingas - and plenty of alligators. It was a great trip.  I'll probably post a few more here in a while.

Technical data:

  • Nikon D7100
  • Nikkor 300mm f2.8
  • Really Right Stuff tripod with Wimberley gimbel head
  • ISO 640
  • 1/800 sec @ f5

Imagenomic noiseware and some Smart sharpening in Photoshop. Image is close to full frame.

Randall, well-timed capture of a Spoonbill as he dips his bill into the water.  The inclusion of a single feather floating nearby adds balance and interest to the image. Very nice!

A really great head turn and nice exposure, Randall.  For my taste, it's rather tight in the frame, though it looks like the bg at the top might be a bit messy from the little bit shown.  The floating Spoonbill feather is a wonderful little addition.
