Taken towards the later part of the day, this Polar Bear said his farewell and moved off, back onto the forming pack ice.

I like the choice to go wide in order to include the full landscape, and the vertical composition gives it a different presentation.  I'm not sure it was necessary to include the full melted area at bottom (though one could argue that it offers some balance with the bluish tones at the top of the image), as it pushes the bear a bit high in the frame.

Hi Max - for me the subject needs to sit on something, going lower (less below) I feel it's then slipping out of frame. I'm happy with the balance and for me, the crop works. cool

Great choice to go wide for inclusion of the broad expanse of broken ice, the horizon and sky!  I think the amount of foreground is fine and the volume of color there nicely balances the distant sky.  Excellent moving pose, too.  I think this has a strong potential for the viewer to contribute emotional meaning to the isolation of place and the plight of these bears.  devil

Composing a scenic vertically, with a wide angle, is not an easy task, I think you managed to give it a fine cut here. The design of the frame supports it too and I just love the glorious skies, adding a warm touch!

Sure works for me!
Love the different elements.  The bear is high in the frame, but cutting off some at the bottom would negatively affect the included water.
Sweet image!

Wonderful environment and habitat, Stephen.  I really like the posture of the bear walking around the pool against the vastness of the pack ice.

Great environmental image.  I like the way the bear and sky compliment each other.
