Stone Sheep Ram + Repost

Bored, going back through some old files that were not completely processed today. Found these of our first trip to Alaska in 2007. This was coming back down the AlCan through Stone Mountain Park in Northern BC. We were very fortunate to see a few Stone Sheep near the highway. This was the big ram with the group. He sent down the bank a ways to watch the action up on the road. This is taken with a Canon Rebel XT, and a 70-300 IS lens. Cropped a bit off the right side and bottom. It feels a bit centered, but I wanted to get rid of some of the OOF trees in front and keep some of the rock.

Ed: he's really a handsome fellow. I like his coloration (which has more grey than the sheep seen iln Colorado) and his pose. The only thing I might suggest would be to tone down the brightness of the rocks he's standing on as they draw the eye. Richard

I agree with Richard.  This does a good job of showcasing their gorgeous coloration.  They are pretty, aren't they?  Good detail in his horns, too. I agree that the rocks are just a tad bright.

Beautiful capture of a beautiful ram. I  think the repost went a bit too far. I think the rocks would look best somewhere between the two posts. Well done.

Very regal looking wild sheep.  Well photographed.  Nice crisp image with good colors and details.  Agree a bit too much darkening of the rocks in the RB.  Thanks for sharing.

A beautiful ram for sure. I agree with the others to tone down the bright rocks, and perhaps also the ram's head.
Really nice image!

What I like about NPN is well illustrated here: We all have our own views of what we prefer in an image.  My thoughts: I really like the repost.  The rocks look fine to me as does the ram's "face".  I think this is an excellent image. The only nit,and it is a small nit (are there degrees of nits?), I have is the bright leaf in front of the ram's nose.  Nice shot.

Hi Ed,

I looked at this image earlier and thought I saw a repost with darker rocks than the repost showing here? Anyway, I do prefer the repost I'm seeing now though I didn't find the rocks in the original shot to be much of a problem. The subject IS quite interesting though - you don't see many shots of the more common form the Dall Sheep (i.e., the white form), so seeing a shot of the dark form (AKA the stone sheep) is quite uncommon. The dark fringes on the leg are particularly interesting. Nicely done!

Cheers...

Brad
