Dewy Morning

I took this one a couple years ago in the Smoky Mountains of Tennessee but I just processed it for the first time. I think I intentionally focused on the grass rather than the deer (but it could also be that I made a mistake!). In any case, I like the end result.

See the large version for a detailed view of the dew on the grass.

Canon 5D3, EF 70-200 mm F/2.8 II  @ 200 mm
F/2.8 1/4000s  ISO 400 Cropped to about 80% of original.

Cheers,

Hisham.

I think it is unfortunate that the deer is out of focus, but that said  it is still IMHO a good image which works best when viewed large.  The larger version brings out the detail in the FG grass.  Thanks for sharing.

I think not having the deer in focus hurts this image quite a bit IMHO.

If the deer is to be included it should, IMHO, be sharp. If you intended to have the grass sharpened; not the deer, then do not include the deer. Either way I think the top should be cropped a little to eliminate the lighter area (sun?) in the top right corner. That being said, it still is a good image with the beautiful background and sharp dewy grass.  As mentioned, viewing it in the detail view window is a must.

I agree with Jim about cropping from the top.  When I scroll down the image to cut off some of the top it looks much better even with the OOF deer.  Give it a try.

Hi Hisham,

Compositionally I like this one very much, but I am tending to agree with the others that this image would be stronger if the subject was sharp. My personal preference would have been to have the foreground grasses sharp too, and to do that you would have had to stop down a little (given how distant the background is it still would have been soft). The inclusion of the brightest spot in the top right corner does not bother me.

Cheers and thanks for sharing this one...
