Moods of November 1

I shot this picture a few miles from my home on November 1st this past week. Once again we had heavy fog and that is always a sign for me to head into the woods. I made this picture as the early morning sun was breaking through the fog and totally enjoyed the moment. It was quite hard trying to come up with a comp that I thought would work here in this terrain and with all the underbrush. Just wish we could see the images with a dark background without the small white border in the larger version.
Last year I did a "Moods of November" series by picking one image each week of November and posting it here and think I might try that again, so this one will be week one I guess. The image I made last year on week 3 of the series made it to the finals of the Great Outdoors photo contest by Outdoor Photographer magazine and i felt pretty good about that.

I really like this; the left side in particular really appeals to me.  That bit of glow through the trees and the layering of the trunk silhouettes is wonderfull.  The right side is bothering me a little bit; I like how it goes into darkness and balances out the left side very nicely but something about where the right trees go into the undergrowth is throwing me off balance.  The image as a whole really is lovely.

Beautiful image, Nick. Wonderful mood created by the backlight and lifting fog. The yellow/red colors in the ULC are particulary attractive.

An incredibly fine woodland scene. One of your recent. The diffused light penetrating these vertical lines makes for a great composition. The bright warm fall foliage on a canvas of somber greens is really nice. Even those bright greens on the right which is mostly dark gives  sense of light penetrating into the forest. Some of the best forest scenes have to do with light penetrating as you have done. There's a lot of symbolic and spiritual value to these subjects. Excellent work IMO.

A truly enticing mood image, Nick.  You get that strong feeling of things coming to life in the early morning light out of the darkness of night - the contrasting sides of the image being especially appealing to my eye.

Amazing mood to this one Nick.... The red tree is a great contrast to the yellow light and green surroundings. The colors work very well together. Nice work!

Nick, seems like the "mood" look and feeling is a unanimous vote on this fine image. Each person has their own perception indicator as to what mood is struck, but it truly invokes or impacts one's senses. Wonderful.......laugh

Great mood here, Nick. Maybe a very little shadows recovery in the right side and it works for me.

An exceptional image to me, Nick. At first sight it may appear weighted to the left, but then you lead my attention to the right side exploring the mystic dark areas. Looking forward to your next part of this series!

Nick, I like how you've got both a sense of mystery and an inviting view.  The string of dark trunks on the right leading to the lovely bright glow in the distance sure has me wanting to go exploring.  The orange leaves contrast beautifully with the darkness and the greens.

The lighting and the mood created with the light fog makes this woodland scene truly magical, Nick. I look forward to your "Moods of November" series. BTW, congrats on making the finals in OP magazine.

Hi  Nick crying     You certainly  captured   a  magical  scene.  with  the  early  morning  light .   seeing  the  light  entering  the  woods  through the  lifting   fog     evokes  a  peaceful and serene mood  .      the   bright autumn  foliage on the left.   alongside  the  shaded  and  lively  greens  add to the  beauty of this exceptional  scenedevil

I love the image.  The colors and light are amazing.  I gotta ask, though, there's this much green in Wisconsin on November 1st?

Ed, Albert and Tony, Thanks much guys! Glad you liked it.
Tony, Yes, This year still quite a bit of green in the woods on Nov. 1st and even a bit later. We had lots of rain this summer and a late fall for the most part. I just got back from a photo trip to Minnesota and was still seeing some green in the valleys and hills as I came back into Wisconsin. Not our normal year I guess but I did think that was one of the things that made this picture a little more interesting for the Moods of November starting mage. Thanks, Nick

Let me only add that the light seems just to be there without origin. Very nice indeed.

Thanks Igor, I really appreciate that. I think in the 12 years I have been on here I have only had about 4 WP's in the landscape gallery so it was nice to get one again. Nick

This is very nice Nick.  Congrats on the WP.  The only nit I see would be the dark edgelines of the tree against the brightest glowlight.
