Morning Rose (+alts.)

As mentioned in my recent macro post, I took the summer off from flora photography but returned to the local public gardens last weekend to shoot some dahlias and roses, including this rose in the morning sun. I took a bunch of shots of this particular rose with varying backgrounds. Single image. Nikon D600, 150 macro, f3.8, iso 200, 1/320, tripod. Suggestions and other comments welcome. crying

Here is an alternative with a dark bg and sharper presentation (f22). Preference?

Both images are nice, but the first one has too much blurring for my taste.  Do you have one where the amount of blur is about halfway in between the first and the second image?  Regarding the bg, I prefer the darker one.

Thank you for the comment, Barb. Is this what you had in mind. f16; dark bg; mid-contrast.

Hi Scott, I think the final version is definitely the image I prefer most in terms of sharpness - My own personal taste would be though for a little more contrast in this image approaching (but not as strong as the second version) for me also the darker background - Though the final version as is, is a wonderful rose portrait!

A lovely rose with beautiful texture in the in-focus areas, Scott.  For my taste, theres a bit too much oof flower in this image created by the three oof rear and side petals.  I do love the hint of yellow provided by the base of the one on the right.  Oops.  Just saw the second post.  I do prefer it, though it's almost too sharp in places.  Maybe just a hint of softening to it?  And now I saw your response to Barb's comment.  I really like that final version.

Scott I too like the final version but I am emotionally attracted also by the first one, original, creative, evocative. Beautiful both for me.

3, 2, 1 for me Scott, but they are all great in their own ways.  I like the saturation and contrast in 2, the BG in 1, and the balance in 3.  Excellent shots and wonderful illustration of how backgrounds and other settings can change the look of a subject.

The rose in 3 and the bg in 1. I like a bg with a little something to chew on.cool

Hi  Scottcrying  I  too think  the first  version is a  bit  softangel.   the beautiful  colors and  light are perfectly   captured.     agree with the others that  the  last version is the  best  onefrownblushfrown
