Newton's Fire

by Doug Koepsel

Moisture from tropical storm Newton made its way north over northern Arizona, leading to a colorful sunset over the sunflowered hills and San Francisco Peaks.  This is a blend of two exposures for sky and land.

Mother of god! That's some sick light, Doug!

That's an amazing field of sunflowers paired with an amazing sky, Doug.  Lots of color and a tremendous sweep.  To my eye, the lower peaks and especially the tip of the just right of center peak seem a bit dark.  A minor nit on a great image.

Nice composition with opposing V's.  The light is just amazing, and I like the cloud motion.

That is some wonderful light and lively color, Doug. The composition works well for me, and, like Angela said, the cloud motion is real nice.

Outstanding Doug. You did a very nice job on the blend to make it look natural. What a great sky!

Wow, that's an explosion of color, both on the ground and sky.  I'm viewing on an IPad, so take this with a grain of salt, but there appears to be a halo along the ridge line where the crazy sky meets the mountains.  Could be from cleaning up the blend, or could be my IPad.

Thank you for your comments.  Mark, the Shultz fire from an abandoned campfire swept across the mountain several years ago, so there are some ugly areas that show especially at sunrise.  The mountain is a mix of lighter burn, darker treed and bare rock peaks.  The round center hill does look too dark.  Gary, the halo will be an easy fix.  Thanks.

Beautiful color and motion Doug.  I also like the overall warmth of the image.
