Forces of Nature

These two forces of nature, one dormant, and one very active, combined for an interesting evening.  I wanted the storm centered over the cinder cone, but by the time I made it to this vantage, the storm had moved on.  I still liked the energy it provided.

Very cool sky and nice scene. I might be tempted to bring down the mid-tones in the foreground. To my eye, the fore seems a bit bright compared to the sky . Another fine local image (I assume local).

The sky is as good as it gets... the clouds on the left side are really nice.
This is one where I would like to see what the colors were like.

This is excellent. Awesome sky with lots of drama. Hard to come up with any suggestions to improve.

Nice scene, Gary.  The dramatic sky adds lots of interest to the mood of this.

This is spectacular, Gary.  I love the mammatus clouds mixed in with the cummulonimbus (I think I got that right ;-). There might even be a lenticular in there.  This is a weather lover's photograph.  Very nice.

Wonderful drama in those clouds, Gary. The processing looks great as does the range of tones in the image. Looks great to me.

At first I thought that the cinder cone was too centered, but the large view changes everything. The spectacular sky dominates there and the problem with the cinder cone goes away. I have often seen the same issue - the thumbnail, or even the small image, do not reflect what the full size image actually says. Maybe it is just me.....

Gorgeous work, and I suspect that the colored version would not be this strong.

Wonderful clarity and clouds. Wide range of tones and textures. Just perfect, and a dramatic b and w scene. I like how the brightest spot in the clouds is over the tallest mountain.

Wonderful sky and such gritty textures in the foreground, Gary - the eye drawn across the landscape to the distant view beyond the hill by the dark roll of cloud.  A deeply engaging image !!

The Cumulus Mammatas is quite spectacular and not often well captured.  Indeed bigger is better with images, the size allows us look around and perceive the scene more as we do in real life, and move beyond a two dimensional experience.
