Blue Shale Dawn

One photographic goal of mine this year is to visit places I have not been before.  One such place where I escaped the holiday crowds last Memorial Day weekend was in south central Utah.  I liked the scene with the pieces of broken Emory sandstone caught in the ravines of the blue shale butte.  The shale shows some nice blue, purple and magenta colors in the varying light of dawn.

Love the nice cool colors in this, Doug, as well as the light and uniformity of the slopes.

Your usual nice comp and clarity.
This is simply too purple for my taste...

Beautiful study of eroded cliffs. Comp. is well balanced with lots of visual interest. Personal taste but I might dial back the magentas somewhat.

I am very familiar with this area, Doug, especially that particular rock.  I know that the colors at dawn can be quite unique, depending on cloud cover and time of year.  You did justice to one of my favorite haunts. Very nice.

I like the topography and well captured scene, but the strong magenta cast is throwing me off. It may well be how it looked, but in the image, it overwhelms me a bit.

This is fantastic, Doug.  The rock color looks surreal, but I know it's not.  It's the kind of image that makes one want to visit the area to see it for themselves.

The diagonals and the crumbling rose colored stone add a wonderful combination of abstraction and detail.  I keep coming back to this looking for something to suggest, and there is nothing.  See how it prints, and hang it!

Very cool twilight lilac rocks, love it.  Looks completely believable colour palette to my eyes.

Sweet color and great composition. Not much more to add. I like how the reddish blocks near the bottom third contrast with the overall pastel blue rendition. Very nice.
