Dark Angel

Svartifoss near Skaftafell, Iceland. I've been reworking this one several times, and I was never pleased with the outcome - until now, that is. This is a version that's good enough to share, I think. The scenery in real life is very impressive, with the tall waterfall plunging over this wall of basalt pillars. Funky name choice because the arching pillar wall reminds me of spread wings.

D610, 18-35 AF-S G, tripod. Blend of two exposures to maintain definition in the sky.

This is a nice striking scene, very grand. I would not mind seeing some shadow detail pulled out of the top left and bottom corners to even things out a bit.

Wow, what a cool falls.  Love the undercut basalt layers.  Has to be an amazing sight to take in.  I think if it were mine, I would crop some from the right side and like Harley, I might open up the shadows top left a bit.  There is some strong haloing along the top left edge that I would work on.  A powerful image worth the tweaks.

Very dramatic and fantastic perspective. Processing looks good but I might burn down the upper right corner a bit.

I missed this beauty because the falls was frozen over when we visited it. This is a lovely name, and I love the dark textures. There seems to be some minor haloing on the transition between sky and the rocks up top but that's minor. Good stuff!

This is spectacular, Basil. I love the rugged scenery along with the range of tones in the image. That rock wall is particularly striking.

Very nice Basil. I remember spending hours puttering around with my ancient Hasselblad and tripod to achieve similar scenes. I actually like the smaller version better, just personal preference, the larger one seems a little overly contrasty to my taste. You did a super job in maintaining the sky!

Impressive columnar Basalts!

I struggled getting a good comp of this waterfall when I was there. B & W is definitely a good choice to highlight the rock and it makes the FG look much better.

Gorgeous black and white image, with so much to look at. The lighting (and processing) emphasizes so well all those pillars and columns, the sky is a nice addition, and the comp is just right. Bravo!
