Yosemite Christmas

This is an oldie which I seem to not have gotten tired of. We don't get much snow here in Baja so this is the best I can come up with for a Merry Christmas image this year.

Snow in Yosemite Valley was a rarity but when it did come down I made a point of driving up from SF. This was taken several days later and I believe that's the Merced. I showed this at NPN years ago when it was still free so probably nobody remembers it.

Shot with a Nikon FM2 and Kodachrome 64 and tripod in the 80's. That's all I remember.

Ho.Ho.Ho. Merry Christmas!

Igor, What a wonderful picture to post at Christmas. I love snow like this and the quietness this evokes is so inviting for me. A beautiful winter scene. Merry Christmas, Nick

This is absolutely gorgeous Igor.  Living in Florida I can only dream of such scenes.  Having shot in snow only a few times, I remember the images almost looking B&W in nature, but I can't imagine there being no color in this at all.  Did you convert to B&W or is this the real thing?

Bill. This was converted to B&W this morning. The original has a slight blue cast which I didn't like too much after I compared it to the B&W. At first I tried to warm it up and that actually worked pretty well. The original post 10 years ago was in color. I also cropped some off from the left to create a stronger composition. It was more difficult with film because you had to come up with compositions that matched the 35mm frame and there was no cropping ( had to get it right before pushing the button ).

Fresh snow is very magical. There is a silence about it.

Man, another snow image.... I desperately want some snow here as well, nothing so far! I really like the fresh snow on the trees, and your choice of going for B+W is great, looks stunning and peaceful at the same time.... Almost has an abstract sort of quality to it.

Igor,

Pretty obvious why you still keep coming back to this one.  It's a beautiful, winter-wonderland image.  As you well know, Yosemite Valley after a snowfall is just magical.  There are scenes like this everywhere! But the challenge is always finding one that works so well.  You captured that here!

Even though this is grayscale, this does have a warmth to it that is very appealing.  A wonderful Christmas tribute Igor.
