Shore Acres SP, Oregon

My wife and I celebrated our 30th wedding anniversary last weekend by indulging ourselves with a trip to the Oregon coast near Yachats, easily one of our very favorite places on the planet. It rained most of the time we were there but so it goes in that part of the world in November. One day there was a high surf warning so we deciced to make the short trip to Shore Acres just south of Coos Bay. We planned our arrival to coincide with high tide and were not disappointed. On prior visits to Shore Acres the seas had been relatively calm so I had never personally witnessed some of the magnificent surf action depicted on images I've seen on NPN. For those not familiar with the park the cliffs here are probably 50-60 feet high. For over two hours we were awed by massive waves assaulting the offshore rocks and cliffs. I gave up on trying to time the explosions and just let the motor drive capture the action at 12 FPS. Technology is good! This is one of my favorites caught at the moment of maximum force. All comments welcome. >=))>

Wow that is some monstrous and powerful wave. You captured it at a great moment and seems like you created the image you wanted.

Damn, that is quite the amount of energy that you captured here! Wouldn't want to stand on those rocks when a wave like this hits it. Very nice.

Winter storms on the Oregon coast are most impressive and you caught a monster wave.  A little oversharpened but fun to look at.

This surely portrays the power of the ocean as it hits the shore.

Hi Bill,

What, no room in Flora for this? sad enlightened

Great timing on showing peak power of this monster wave!  I've never quite witness something as powerful and dramatic as this, but have always been drawn to the crashing waves on the rugged coast in Pacific Grove in between Monterey and Carmel.

Hard to be picky with dynamic action like this, but did you capture any with a little more space on the right?  At least the flow of the crashing wave is heading that way... ;-)  I might agree with David on the sharpening in the large view.

Very powerful image, Bill. There is a lot going on here, but it works. I also see some sharpening halos in the large version. I'd also like to see the the very top of the wave, but that's minor. Good job!

Nicely timed for the power and drama, Bill. You realIy captured the energy of the wave with the fast ss, and I like the way the wave looks like it's going to overpower the small tree in the URC.

I'm so glad you included the tree at the top of the cliff to give this monstrous wave some scale. What amazing power you convey in this shot. I can only imagine how mesmerizing it was to sit and watch this for 2 hours. Just fantastic.

Wow! Incredible power that you cpatured here I really like this image a lot.  I would be curious to see a B&W conversion or making this image "cooler" with respect to color temp (more blues, less purples)
