Lots of rains have made for lush growth in our Black Hills parks, Wind Cave National Park and Custer State Park. Both places are great places to see and photograph bison. This young calf is transforming from the reddish baby to his future gnarly countenance, but I think this image is about an expression of serenity, hence the title.
D610, Tamron 150-600 @400, ISO 800, 1/250, f 6.3, -0.7ev, shot as horizontal so a rather strong crop but I think it held up fine. I considered erasing the bright head of grass on his side, but....decided otherwise. Comments welcomed.

6 commentsLon, beautiful shot - I like the details on the head against the blurred BG and the muted color of the shot. I agree, the crop caused no harm!
Very cute and love the soft light and pastel hues, Lon. Perfectly framed.
Stellar capture. I love the creamy background and rich colors.
Hi Lon,
I like this one a lot. Colours are excellent and the almost "pleading" look on the calf is very engaging. Plus, as always, the simplicity works real well for me.
In terms of that bright head of grass on his side - to me it's pretty inconsequential and I suspect only photographers looking for something to comment on in a critique would notice it!
Cheers...
Brad
The rain's bounty is very apparent with these lush grasses.. Excellent light, detail, & color Lon.
This young bison never had it so good, very nice all around Lon
Great eye contact and lovely soft light that seems to go with the vulnerability of this youngster Lon
