A pair of great blue herons faithfully come back to a local pond and nest on a small island. This year I only see one. Taken with Canon 7D using the 100-400mm lens at 320mm, F8, 1/500 sec., ISO 400, -0.3. Like it because it is not a standard pose or surrounding environment.
Your thoughts are appreciated.

6 commentsPatricia, I like the unusual location and the "dust up" ruffle of the GBH. It took me a bit to figure out the bird was standing, because of the ground cover hiding its legs. A step back or even forward would have helped.
Phil. It wasn't possible to change positions in time to capture the pose. He is on a small island and I was on the opposite shore. Did move and caught other activity later, but this was the best I could get at the time without getting wet! Thanks for commenting.
Interesting pose from the heron, I thought it was sitting until I read Phil's comment. To me the whole image looks a little bright. I would play around with either shadow/highlights or bring the exposure down a bit and see if that seems better. The heron appears sharp at this size. A larger image would be helpful to see more detail. Thanks for posting.
I like this different sort of view of the heron and I am enjoying the habitat you have included. I like the pose but have been unable to locate the bird's legs! Looks like the bird could use a little more sharpening.
I'm with you Patricia I do like the way the Heron fits into it's surroundings ,it's a very different view of this bird that i like a lot.
Keith.
Interesting image: at first glance it looks like the bird is sitting, but it appears to be standing .... A different setting for sure. Nicely seen, Cheers, Hans
