The rains are staying away and I had a blue sky to work with. I went back to the Kite's favorite tree and found the male just sitting there grooming himself. Periodically, he would call to his mate, who flew in a few minutes later. The late afternoon sun cast a shadow on his back side, but the lit up eye more than made up for it.

9 commentsThe blue sky background really sets of the gray bird nicely and the bright red lit up eye really adds some interest. The large version is essential viewing with this one. You can see a lot more information in the shadows and that eye really stands out in the large version. A very nice capture, Jerry!
Clean background, interesting perch and sharp throughout. Well done.
Good detail in the shadows, which is hard to get in harsh light. The calling pose and brightness of the eye make this photo.
You have had quite a time with these kites Jerry. They are very cool, I like the blue sky with the included white clouds. Details are great in the Kite. The only suggestion I can make is to move him just a little bit to the right for compostion. Nice work!
Very nice, Jerry. Sweet light and superb detail. After the last ten years, I wouldn't go complaning about rain too much!
Jerry,
Great shot

Great pose on this male Jerry, I like the variation of blue sky with some clouds in it.
Most has been said already, what's also interesting is that the somehow blends in with the tree and it's side-branches. Nice eyelight and the larger version shows a lot, also in the shadows. Nice one Jerry ! Cheers, Hans
Really like the open beak, the BG clouds and how you kept the entire tree in the frame. Nice work Jerry!
