Chuck: your photo is wonderfully evocative of Winter. The pose, perch and background are all solid. I wonder if it's possible to bring out a little texture to the first snow mass to the bird's right? Great shot nonetheless. Richard

Hey Chuck, nice to see the snow

Agree with Richard, there is a hint more detail you can extract from the FG snow, less so to the rear, but that's fine. If you have it the moving the whole crop down a bit will I think give a better framing and the subject won't look as if it's slipping out of frame. If not try a 16x10 crop. Would have preferred the head to be a little more side on. Catch up with you in the New Year.
:toast:

Have a good one.

Beautiful bird and beautiful image - I agree that a bit of texture on the snow would be nice, and perhaps some minor overall brightening? :toast:

Hi Chuck:

Not sure if you were going for a high key image? As others have commented the lack of detail in the snow seems to pull away from the Redpoll. Here's a shot at trying to recover some detail (unsuccessful). Maybe there is some in the RAW file. I still brought down the overall exposure and tried to add some texture/detail in the bird. See what you think.

I also would like to see more detail if possible in the light areas, mostly the snow around the bird. I have never seen one of these birds, special thanks for sharing.

Hi Chuck--Merry Xmas!

I like the pose and snow too. The larger view reveals some ideal detail and a subtle highlight in the eye :toast: .....................Jim

Chuck,
Very nice image that makes me shiver. I think the change Keith made improves the image. :toast:
