This image was captured in Lisle, Il at the Morton Arboretum back December of 2007. I may have posted it here before, but this is what I have come up with with some re-processing. The light stopped me dead in my tracks as I was walking by this image. It was a glorious morning to be alive.

Ryan, are those car headlights back there?.....

What a super neat capture. Not sure I've ever seen a scene with this type of unique lighting in a deep forest photo. Excellent framing effect with the opening in the trees too. Has a bit of Kincade look to it. Glad you were there to take it all in...... :toast:

Paul,

My girlfriend said the same thing, and I do have a subaru outback, so you never know, lol. I would not put anything past me.

Incredible light through the trees ... Nicely composed! The snow has somewhat of a cyan cast on my monitor, maybe to be expected, but I wonder if reducing this would have a positive impact.

I can see why you returned to this image. The warm light in the cold forest is an irresistible draw for the human condition. I prefer the original dark surroundings since it make the warm glow an even stronger force.

Nice work Ryan. I like the color combo of the second post. I try to think of color combinations that will work well when I'm processing color, so in this case you have golds and cyans, nicely paired. I may try to experiment with crops that get me closer to the light as well

Beautiful warm light against the blues. I prefer the original post. The light looks more magical to me in it. Excellent.

Wow Ryan, the light here stopped me in my tracks too -- even in the thumbnail!
I did not see your original one, but whatever you did this time looks great. I like the image as posted because it looks to me like the way this would look during the brief crepuscular time when it's almost dark, and the first (or last) light of day beams through, lighting up just part of the dim, snowy forest. It's easy to process such a scene as a brighter daylight shot, losing the magic of the moment. Hard for me to say, because I was not there, but obviously you want to preserve that memory when the light stopped you dead in your tracks. That happens when there is a dramatic difference between the light you saw and the surrounding scene. Preserve that drama.

The warm light peeking through the snow covered trees is great, Ryan. This sure has a Christmas Card feeling to it. I like the reduced cyan in the repost, but prefer the darker tones in the original, for me, that adds emphasis to the inviting warmth that's hiding back there. I wonder about cropping some of the snowy brush at the bottom, but after spending more time viewing find the having the warm area centered works well.

Beautiful winter image, Ryan! Love shots like this and the first one works best for me. It has a little more impact and looks like early morning light to me. Really nice! :toast:

Lovely light and nicely detailed. I am seeing quite a bit of cyan in the snow. I just saw the repost, but I prefer something in between regard the snow; perhaps add a little blue? Regardless, this is a lovely image, Ryan.

Very nice, Ryan. I prefer the first image...it feels warmer and more inviting in the trees. The second post snow lost something subtle for me.

I'm looking forward to the snow even more now after a little taste over the weekend.

Wow. Talk about right place at the right time. The glow of the sun has a warming feel, very inviting, in contrast to the coldness of the snow. Very nicely done Ryan, very nicely done. :toast:
