Tucked Away

I spent a few days with a photographer buddy at Caddo Lake last week. It was 25°F when we pushed off in the kayaks before daybreak for the paddle out. I know this is nothing to most of you guys but that is COLD for this Louisiana boy! This group of trees was tucked away in the corner of a small pond.

Another great image. The composition, colors and the reflection are great. I lived in southern Louisiana for 4 yrs and I enjoy your images very much.

Man, this is lovely. The warmth of the fall cypress leaves scattered through out all of the spanish moss and set against the cool blue of the water does a great job of putting me "right there".

Very nice, David. Was this shot out of a kayak?

25°F is cold for me too. Is that ice on top of the water? Lovely image.

That's a bit of mist on the water and not ice, Tony. It would have to stay below freezing for a long while for ice to form but it does happen occasionally.

Your images are always a treat David, and this is no exception. Although I've only been a member for a month or so, I lurked for several years and your photos amongst the cypress are consistently some of the best on NPN. :toast: :toast:

David,

Your Cypress tree images are wonderful, and this image is a joy to take in. The way you framed this image with the cypress leaves and moss produces a beautiful balance, and I absolutely love the tones of color through out.

Beautiful Photography

Whenever I see cypress images like this, I have to see the large image immediately. (What I don't have to do is look for your name -- it would be a surprise if someone else shot it.) Excellent composition, drawing the eye into the scene to explore the textures and colors. The vertical lines and colors of the moss -- especially with the fall colors -- are magical. I am afraid that I would not know what to do with a scene like this. I'd probably want to fit all the trees from top to bottom, into the frame.

By the way, 25 degrees is cold for kayaking EVERYWHERE, even up here near the Canadian border. I occasionally break through shore ice to go paddling, but not often, and NEVER alone. When the water temperatures get down into the 40s or lower, falling in means you are dead if you can't get dry and warm within a few minutes. I always have a small dry bag within reach that has a complete set of dry clothes and fire starting supplies. Only had to use it once, but now I never get in the boat without it.

Another beauty, David! Great detail and I like the subtle reflection and the hints of mist.
