My 70-400 was delivered Monday so my Colorado trip has been my first opportunity to use it. Was up at dawn yesterday extracting images from the dunes and had a thoroughly good time. I noticed a subtle color display at the edge of the shadows and realized it is a diffraction phenomenon as the sun rose above the mountains to the east. This was one of many favorites from the shoot. Great photo. I like the feeling the wall of the far-distant dune provides as a backdrop for the nearer dunes; the long focal length really helps here.

Sweet image, Bill. I like the earth tones along with that zigzag along the dune ridges. The interplay of light and shadow also works beautifully.
